United Nations Convention on Climate Change

With the entry into force of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992, representatives of the signatory countries began meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change and to manifest the concerns of each of the intervening parties. These meetings are called “Conferences of the parties” (COP). COPs are of paramount importance since they involve multilateral negotiations aimed at establishing agreements to combat climate change, with specific, binding policies on all signatories. The Kyoto Protocol itself resulted from one of these COPs, the third one, held in 1997 in the city of Kyoto, Japan.

The sixteenth meeting (COP 16) will be held in Cancún, México, from November 29 to December 10, 2010. Its historical relevance is given from the fact that it is expected that a renewal of the Kyoto Protocol will arise from this meeting, as said Protocol expires in December, 2012.

Geo Ingeniería will participate in the COP 16 as one of the organizations invited as observers.

RTCC

In parallel to this, Geo Ingeniería is proud to announce its participation in the next issue of the “Responding To Climate Change guide” (RTCC). RTCC has been published for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conferences since COP 6, The Hague, in 2000. RTCC is a nongovernmental organization showcasing policies, innovations, technologies, products and services related to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to the impacts of climate change. Said organization is accredited as an official observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process. The guide and its website (www.rtcc.org) are important components of a global exchange of knowledge about how best to respond to global climate and developmental challenges.
